A huge crowd gathered at a sports club at Worli on Sunday morning as thousands of

Mumbaikars

took part in a special run. This was no ordinary run for

fitness

. Instead, it marked a ‘

Tribute Run

’ to commemorate the brave hearts of

26/11

on the 10th anniversary of Mumbai terror attacks. Judging by the turnout and sheer positivity on display at the event, it was evident that along with their sporting side, Mumbaikars also showed off their strong, resilient spirit. The participants in the run cheered each other, held placards and ran with a purpose. Here's what went into the rousing morning.

Silent prayer and a flag off

The three event categories - 21km, 10km and 5km – started at 5.30 am, 6.30 am and 7.30 am, respectively. There was a silent prayer, after which wellness expert

Mickey Mehta

took the crowd on an enthusiastic and lively warm-up session. Then, the 5-km run began. Nishriin Parikh, award-winning fitness trainer and bodybuilder, who encouraged the

runners

, said, “I’m so excited that and this is the Mumbai spirit that we can look forward to. Nothing can compare with the support and love that we have for each other.”
CA student Anysia Chanakya added, “We have gathered to remember the

martyrs

at the 10th anniversary of the attacks. These are our heroes who became a shield for us and they are a sheer inspiration to us.”

Karthik Raman, CMO of a bank, said, “With participation from over 8000 runners, we are overwhelmed with the spirit of solidarity from Mumbaikars who came together to pay a sporting tribute to the martyrs and bravehearts of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. On this 10th anniversary, as we remember these brave souls, as a city we must continue to resolve to stay strong, be united and #KeepMoving, in the face of terror or attack.”
The Tribute Run witnessed participation from runners of various age groups and backgrounds, including members of the

Defence

Forces and Mumbai Police, portraying solidarity in the face of terror. Medals were conferred upon finishers of all the races by NCC Cadets.
