You’ve heard so much about
drones
and seen them – in films and in several
weddings
, taking those sweeping, panoramic
baraati shots. There are an increasing bunch of lovers of this
unmanned aerial vehicle
and keeping this in mind, there was a whole
workshop
conducted on drones at the Times of India
Kala Ghoda Arts Festival
.
Demo and DIY session
Learning about how drones are used and made
Learning about how drones are made and used Held at the Artists’ Centre in the afternoon, the workshop saw a crowd of about 25 people attending the event, with three trainers. Says Gaurav Singh, who loves to teach technology, “Drones will change society in the next 12 years and so this is the right time to talk about it. A drone has multiple applications – agricultural, giving parcels, photography and
filmography
applications, and more.”
They used a basic drone to understand how to create a flying object. Gaurav began with a history on drones, why it’s called so and more. “Did you know, a drone makes a noise of a drone bee and that’s how it gets its name. It is also smaller in size than other flying objects,” he explains, adding, “The crowd was not entirely from an
engineering
background so I could not go into the details of aerodynamics. Participants instead learnt about its electronic sensors and other aspects.”
Post the talk, they also learnt to assemble the drone, where everyone had a hands-on session with it. They also had a 30-minute flying session within the hall. “Since there was a crowd outside we could not take the drone outside. It was fun and the participants loved their experience,” he says.
