A special style of presenting your stories,
Pecha Kucha
(meaning chit-chat in Japanese) was first devised in Tokyo back in February 2003 as an event for young designers to network and showcase their work in a public setting. It is now an evening celebrated in 1000+ cities worldwide. The event held on Saturday evening at a co-working space in Santacruz, saw a crowd of more than hundred enjoying the lively presentations.
The Pecha Kucha presentation has the speaker narrating his story in 20 slides which are on screen for 20 seconds each. Concise and fast-paced the event had speakers from varied backgrounds making their presentations speaking about their travel expeditions, their start-ups, haunting memories of childhood and more.
The format has different speakers everytime and the seven speakers at this event included
Elita Almeida
(young solo traveller and writer who inspires other people to write too),
Esha Sridhar
(a nineteen year old survivor of child abuse),
Kaushik Mukherjee (spoke about completing the
Ironman Triathlon
),
Astrid Rao
(who chased her dream of building a native place for all),
Teena Kaur Pasricha
(winner of this year's Best Investigative Film – 1984: When the Sun didn't Rise),
Dedeepya Reddy
(who's been painting Mumbai in lovely colors) and
Munaf Kapadia
(who gave up his job with Google to sell samosas).
Listening to the speakers talking about their individual experiences was an enthusiastic audience, clapping and cheering for their dare devilry and the belief in themselves which made them come up and share personal experiences on a public platform.
