Lodha Foundation Ganeshotsav, Grant Road Lodha Ganeshotsav’s theme this year is a model of the Lenyadri Caves, designed by celebrity set designer Nitin Desai and his team at Gilder Tank Maidan. While the idol sits on the upper storey, over 1,000 items — including swords, spears, war, musical instruments, tiger claws (used by Shivaji), shields, British and Portuguese guns sourced from the private collections of Kolhapur-based Girish Laxman Jadhav — are displayed in the compound.

Advertising professional Prasoon Pandey was spotted admiring the weapons and artefacts procured from the war zones of Panipat and Haldighati. “Ganeshotsav is not just about religion but also an expression of social values,” he said.

The Mazgaon Mandal has been divided into various sections to resemble the caves of Elephanta and Mauryan period. The nine-feet idol, created by Venkatesh Kambli, is dressed in finely-carved jewellery. Calling it a “kamaal ki moorti”, Madhur Bhandarkar said, “I have heard a lot about the Anjirwadi Ganpati and, finally, I got a chance to pay a visit.”
