'This was a way of giving the children a

magical

Christmas'

Says student Shreyas Bhandary, “We all wore Santa hats and went around areas like Dadar, Parel, Mahim and Worli area giving out

gifts

to children who live on the street. Some gifts were placed by the side of those kids who were fast asleep. This was a way of giving the children a magical Christmas, where a Santa really comes and hands out gifts.”

The students distributed close to 300 gifts. These included, notebooks, colouring books, clothing items, toys and food. He adds, “This is an entirely student-driven initiative and all the funds required for this cause was raised from our own pocket money. The main idea behind this activity was to spend some joyous time with those less privileged and encourage them also to be a part of the Christmas spirit.

All smiles after their round of gift giving

Adds professor Neeraj Kumar, BMM Coordinator, Kirti M Doongursee College, “The students started this initiative five years ago and it is still going strong. We have reached a stage where the kids are aware that Santa would visit to hand out gifts. It is a feeling of pride that our students are sensitised enough to first think of the society before spending the money at a Christmas

party

.”
