JP Dutta celebrates 20 years of 'Border'

It’s not often that the team of an iconic film reunites two decades after its release to recall its journey. The 20th anniversary of filmmaker

', held recently at a suburban venue, evoked nostalgia.
Attended by some of the cast and crew members, their close friends, family, colleagues and army men, the gathering was brimming with warmth, fond memories and cheer. The bash was anchored by the filmmaker’s elder daughter Nidhi and planned by his wife, actress Bindiya Goswami Dutta.

The event gave the guests a glimpse into the making of the war drama as well as video messages of the cast members who couldn’t make it to the event. A heartfelt speech by JP and a hint of what he plans to make next also turned out to be the highlight. “It’s not my film anymore,” he told BT, adding, “I made it but it’s my country’s film now. I’m glad we’ve come this far. We wouldn’t have been able to make this film had it not been for the cast and the support I received from my technicians and the armed forces. They all
trusted me.”

While on stage, Dutta said that the G Suit (a uniform) worn by Jackie Shroff in the film belonged to his brother Deepak Dutta. Suniel Shetty recalled how he shot for the film when his wife Mana (also present at the do) was expecting their second child (son Ahan) back then. Mementos for the cast and crew were distributed followed by a medley of the film’s soundtrack.

Off stage, after the formal event was over, Jackie and Suniel indulged in some friendly banter. Jackie also reminisced memorable instances from their shooting days in Rajasthan. Suniel and Mana were seen catching up with singer Roopkumar Rathod and his wife Sonali, Anu Malik and his family, Sonu Sood, Javed Akhtar, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Puneet Issar and Abhishek Bachchan. , who attended the do with her son Kussh and daughter-in-law Taruna. Before making an exit, Poonam made it a point to meet Abhishek and ask him about his family’s well-being. Randhir Kapoor made a late entry and stuck around for a while, reminiscing the good old days with JP Dutta andhis family.
