From Proteas, Orchids to Tulips: Mumbai’s new floral obsession
Flowers never go out of style—and Mumbaikars are bringing home the beauty of exotic blooms this summer. We spoke to some of the city’s top florists, who also cater to celebrity clientele, to uncover the floral trends transforming Mumbai homes into vibrant, fragrant havens.
‘There’s a definite appetite for rare and luxurious blooms’City florists are seeing a growing demand for exotic flowers in Mumbai. Whether it’s for décor or gifting, exotic flowers are blooming in popularity, bringing colour, elegance and fragrance into homes everywhere.
Anuja Lunkad Joshi, founder of luxury floral company Interflora explains, “People have a more global aesthetic and greater exposure to international floral varieties now. With a high concentration of HNIs (High Net-Worth Individuals) and celebrities, there’s a definite appetite for rare and luxurious blooms. I’ve personally seen this up close—Alanna Panday, for instance, once requested an entire décor made exclusively of blue hydrangeas.”
Highlighting the most sought-after flowers this season, she adds, “Proteas, Tulips and Cymbidium Orchids are especially popular. Their charm lies in their uniqueness—Proteas are admired for their rare, wild structure; Tulips for their seasonal and exotic appeal; and Cymbidiums for their refined elegance. These flowers aren’t just beautiful—they feel distinctive and meaningful, which is exactly what our customers are looking for.”
‘More than specific flowers, what really resonates with Mumbaikars is colour’Bold, cheerful flowers are consistently popular choices for gifting and home décor. Nidhi Gupta, founder of exotic flower boutique Shades of spring, shares, “Sunflowers, Hydrangeas, Lilies, Lisianthus, Tuberoses and Tulips, are in high demand in Mumbai. More than specific flowers, what really resonates with Mumbaikars is colour. Lilies and Tuberoses are popular for the fragrance they bring. For those seeking a more luxurious aesthetic, Hydrangeas, Lisianthus, and Tulips are the go-to choices. These flowers elevate any space, making them a staple for home décor.”
