That’s what we told you and, boy, were we bang on cue with that or what? It was a night of shimmer, glitter, stardust and all other ‘out of this world’ surprises at the Bombay Times ‘Blast Off 13th Anniversary Bash’ on Friday night.
1x1 polls

The entire first floor of the Taj Mahal Palace & Tower, Colaba, was transformed into a much higher ground — taking you on a terrific trip to outer space to celebrate the entry of your favourite read BT into its teenage years. And what a celebration it was!
We promised you a world where everything was spaced out — alien meets astronaut, Venus orbits Mars and you are the Sun.
Well, you felt like one at the bash, getting over the Moon and into the radiant rays of the brightest planet in the universe as dancing lasers pierced you and the mesmerising music got to you. Yes, the glamourous denizens of our galaxy were shining well and truly.
Among the first to make their spectacular entry at the bash Mumbai drools for, were the mother-son duo of the graceful Neetu Kapoor and the newest hunk on the block, Ranbir Kapoor. Incidentally this was the first time that Ranbir was at a BT party and according to him, “It rocked!”

The Badshah of Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan, six packs et al, ponytail in place, eyes sparkling, gave rise to a constellation revolving around his every move. Causing a mini riot was Madhuri Dixit who razzled and dazzled all with her infectious smile.
After she disappeared into the night, entering the space zone was Abhishek and Aishwarya Bachchan looking every inch the smashing couple they are, with AB Jr brimming with pride as he went on to introduce to guests his wife who looked lovely in an elegant black and white ensemble.
Close on their heels were Kareena Kapoor, Karan Johar and Amrita Arora — who said they loved every minute of the party. Shahid Kapoor came in a little later and hung around in the space age disco zone that was done up in true inter-galactic style.
Besides other Bollywoodians like a glowing Mahima Choudhary and Jackie Shroff, Mumbai society’s swish set were represented in full force with the likes of Yash and Avanti Birla, Gautam and Nawaz Singhania and a ravishing Queenie Dhody who shimmered in a slinky gold mini as she kept her good friend Rhea Pillai company.
The heavyweight company was provided for by Amar Singh who was with Abhishek and Aishwarya. A dashing Praful Patel and Subroto Roy with son Seemanto Roy added to the power quotient.
With the entire venue sectioned off into zones that had something for everyone, guests could either mingle with each other or shake a leg to the pulsating beats created by DJ Aqeel and DJ Akhtar. And if all that leg shaking was getting stressful, there was even a dedicated section with a mini spa replete with back rubs and gentle foot massages.
The extensive buffet section ably created by Chef Hemant Oberoi had everything from luscious Peking duck to Burmese lamb curry to a plethora of delectable deserts to round up a culinary odyssey. Fabulous food, people, and oodles of fun. What else do you expect from a bash where the only question guests keep asking as they leave is, “How soon till the next party?”
