Celebs come together at a digital detox event

It took place at a spa in Juhu.
Let's face it. We seem to be even more involved in the virtual world than the real one. A study says an individual spends 6 to 8 hours each day, checking emails, browsing, shopping online and on

social media

. And for 1,700 times a day, the brain needs instant gratification. Keeping this constant need in mind, an event was conducted by

clinical psychologist

and

happiness

coach Dr Kanan Khatau Chikhal, at Sohum Spa, Juhu, to get people to take step back and do a

digital detox

Speaking about the need to disconnect, Dr Kanan said, "We live two lives. The time we spend creating a mask on the social media is what we want the world to see as an image of ours. And that mask that we create enables us to act like undercover agents. When we are on this social media we just want acceptance which we get from likes. And these likes we mistake as love. When we come back to the real world, it’s not so accepting. Like a fish out of water you jump back in the social media world. And this phenomenon continues, creating within us a void. Also, gaming addictions make us hostile, angry and we may even feel depressed. In fact, children with gaming and phone addictions may suffer from

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

(

ADHD

), which can improve only if they are digitally detoxed."

Several celebs were present at the informative event, such as actresses Manjari Fadnnis, Smilly Suri, South Indian actress Vedika S and more. Says Manjari, "It was so interesting to hear what was being said. It is important to do a digital detox; so often you see people caught up in their phones even when they are in front of you. I have a rule that whenever I go meet anyone, my phone is always on silent mode as I like to give respect to the person that way. I think people people need to get their digital etiquettes in place."
