Celebs at Navy Queen beauty pageant

Queen of 2010: The last day of the Navy Week celebrations was marked by the Navy Ball and the Navy Queen beauty pageant, which was hosted at the Naval Command Officers’ Mess, INS Varuna in the city.
It was a star-studded evening and Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Nirmal Verma and his wife Madhulika graced the occasion. The function started with Admiral Verma rolling a ball, called the Navy ball.This was followed by a laser show, as well as a performance by singer KK. The highlight of the evening was Vidya Balan, who had come to the ball as the guest of honour and as one of the judges for the pageant, while in the city to promote her upcoming movie “No One Killed Jessica”. The evening, co-ordinated by Ramesh Menon, was made more fun by singer Sunidhi Chauhan, stand-up comedian Vir Das, and anchors Siddharth Kannan and former Miss India Vaishali Desai. Vir’s act was a hit among the guests during the evening, as he made fun of everything from the new T-3 terminal to Yaana’s recent wardrobe goof-up. He even joked about Delhiites and said, “Delhi is the only place where Bryan Adams can still have a sell-out concert.”
Minus her hubby: Sunanda Pushkar was also present at the event and when we asked her about hubby Shashi’s (Tharoor) absence from the do, she said, “Shashi is busy travelling and is in Trivandrum at the moment,” adding, “It’s wonderful to see such beautiful young faces on the ramp.”
Glam time: The judges on the panel included biggies from the world of fashion and entertainment – Vidya Balan, Shaila Lopez, Sunil Sethi, Gautam Bhimani and Pantaloons Femina Miss India World Manasvi Mamgai. Raveena Tandon Thadani, who was one of the special guests for the evening, said,“I’m delighted to be a part of an event like this.” Actor Bobby Deol came for a short while.
Winners all: After the 20 finalists competed for a couple of hours, Navika Chaudhary was crowned the Navy Queen 2010. Twinkle Uppal and Komal Ahuja were adjudged this year’s first runner-up and second runner-up, respectively. Said Navika, “Frankly, after the second round I knew that the crown was coming my way.” Added her best friend Twinkle, who was crowned the first runner-up, “Both Navika and I study in the same class in college. I’m extremely happy that we both won. We don’t belong to a defense background but we have won the hearts of the audience and the title. ” Winners in other categories included Anupreet Kaur (Miss Beauty), Sonaskshi Panhotra (Miss Congeniality), Priyanka Gusain (Miss Beautiful Smile), Samridhi Kapoor (Miss Photogenic), Swedha Singh and Deepanka Kapoor (Miss promising titles).
An evening in Delhi: When we spoke to Admiral Verma after the event, he said, “It was a beautiful evening and it was nice to see young college students taking part in this pageant.”
