Celebrating Africa
The Indian dignitaries who were present at the celebrations for Arfica Day recently, were in for a pleasant surprise when they got to know that they will be witnessing Egypt’s most popular folk dance Tanoura.
Rafat, Tanoura dance performer, was specially flown in from Cairo to perform at the do. The guests were quite impressed by the philosophy behind the dance, where the men use long colourful skirts that make a beautiful image when swirling around in circles to reach inner purity, to manage to reach God’s satisfaction.

Adel El Masry from the Egyptian Tourism was present and graciously looked after the guests, as they enjoyed the lovely dance performance. Gul Kriplani was seen chatting with him. Consul General of Egypt Nabila Farhana, Consul General of South Africa Buzi Kuzwayo and Consul General of France Francois Pujolas were spotted enjoying themselves immensely, even as they mingled with the other guests.
