Bottles twirling in the air, cocktail-shakers flying and connecting with bottles, music pumping, bartenders dancing thats what you witnessed at the Bacardi Martini Grand Prix 2009. It was the 44th edition of the popular and prestigious international bartending competition, and the Mumbai round saw a bunch of bartenders vying to go to the National Finals in Delhi later this month for a place to compete with the finest bartenders of the world at the Global Finals taking place in Italy in September.
Kalki Koechlin along with Mahesh Madhawan, President and CEO, Bacardi Martini India Limited and mixologist Shatbhi Basu were the judges here. Yes, they had to sip a lot and reach a decision about who would win in various categories like the mixology round and the flair section.
We are happy to bring the 44th edition of the Bacardi Martini Grand Prix to India. Its a great platform for bartenders to demonstrate their versatility and talent on an international scale.
BMGP has seen bartenders across the world bring alive the mixability of Bacardi by creating some of the most innovative cocktails, said Mahesh to which Kalki added, I have always enjoyed Bacardi for its fantastic cocktails and exciting party experiences. Its wonderful that with Bacardi, these guys will actually get a chance to compete with the crme de la crme of bartending at Italy. Let the grooviest man win!
Watching it all, from the sidelines, were the likes of Kalkis boyfriend Anurag Kashyap who bonded with Imtiaz Ali, and Brazilian model-cum-actress Giselle Monteiro, who, dressed in a salwar kameez, looked absolutely Indian. All in all, it was a night of cocktails and screams with friends of the bartenders edging them on by shouting and cheering and generally having a blast.
