It was an arty-hearty party on Tuesday night as art lovers came together to create and present a prestigious award celebrating contemporary art in India. The cheer was on with cocktail chatter veering towards this first-of-its-kind award that strives to recognise and reward young Indian artists under the age of 45. The jury members include Tasneem Mehta who spoke with passion about this endeavour, Rajshree Pathy and Dr Kavita Singh.
Also holding forth on the award was art critic Girish Shahane and Martin da Costa, well known face on the Mumbai party circuit years ago and now living in London. The talk was on the underlying objective of providing a platform for many more young artists and encourage them to create original works of art and reach new heights. The final winner, you learnt, would be announced in January and would be awarded one million rupees. Soaking in this arty ambience were the likes of model and Mahesh Bhupathi’s ex-wife Shweta Jaishankar, art gallery owner Pravina Mecklai with hubby Jamal and theatre actor Rahul Vohra.
