With a mission to beat plastic pollution, more than 100 ‘Ambassadors of Change’ from the department of mass media at
Nagindas Khandwala College
came together yesterday to kick-start the #BeatPlasticPollution initiative. It kicked off in Malad besides nine other locations, including Marine Lines, Haji Ali, Bandra Bandstand, Juhu Beach, Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Shivaji Park, Goregaon WEH and Borivali Station and saw close to 1,000 students from the college participating.
Besides distributing cloth bags and saplings, they also conducted street plays and the students aimed at raising awareness by collecting 10,000 signatures of citizens supporting the ban. Sharing her views on the menace of plastic pollution, Prof. Preethi Rao, coordinator of the mass media department from the college, said, “We need to awaken the nurturer within each of us and be the change. The choice is ours; either you beat plastic pollution or it beats you.”

Each year, the institute takes up some task as a part of its social responsibility to bring about a change in the society. Commenting on this initiative, Rushabh Deena Shah, chairperson of the department, said, “Mumbai is a beautiful city that represents the spirit of change and it is important for all of us to realise the importance of our environment and play our part in ensuring these ecosystems are undeterred by human activities.”
