A fairytale-like view of fireflies for city folks

As someone from the city, you may have read about

fireflies

only in tales and comic books. But those little

insects

, known for their ability to produce light, are very real and absolutely beautiful to see. A group of

Mumbaikars

were privy to their glimmering light recently. They caught a glimpse of their glow around the

trees

at

Kamshet

and could not stop marveling at their fairy-like lights.

Says Astrid Rao, “The event was held in our garden. The place has a lot of native trees which gather lots of fireflies. It’s makes for a beautiful phenomenon that always gathers a huge crowd of Mumbaikars. The fireflies season starts at the end of summer and its intensity continues or a while till June. The fireflies are an indicator that the heavy rains are here. They seem to float and sinking down in a graceful movement, like embers from a

bonfire

. Spotting these beautiful insects brings about such a sense of peace.”

Dipika Sunith who participated in the event, says, “We loved watching the yellow light created by the fireflies. Once it turns dark and your eyes adjusted to the darkness, you can see the fireflies like twinkling

stars

and it’s like a shiny yellow dancing light on the trees. The insects were lighting up the shrubs and hedges and looked so unreal. It was a treat to see them.”
