The spirit of Mumbaikars was out in full at the event. They came from different parts of the western suburbs and gathered early with placards. The march began at Chacha Nehru Park near the Versova Metro Station at 4.30 pm and proceeded towards the Children's Welfare Center High School, Yari Road.

Holding placards with messages that paid special tribute to the Covid-19 warriors

Says a spokesperson from the rally, "What a sight it was to see so many city folks come out to pay tribute to the Covid warriors! It was raining heavily since morning, but despite that they came out in large numbers and extended their love and support."
It was also endearing to see special participants such as wheelchair-bound people and ones with special needs, taking part. Representatives of various NGOs and citizens from nearby joined in and carried with messages on their signs and placards to praise the Covid warriors and celebrate Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav.

The rally was followed by the felicitation of the Covid-19 warriors at the ground at 6.30pm. Along with Ekata Manch, Nidhi Choudhari (IAS) District Collector and District Legal Services Authority Mumbai Suburban felicitated 25 of these Covid-19 warriors from various essential sectors. Among members of municipal and police force and paramedical staff were the unsung heroes - the grave diggers - who worked hard and relentlessly during the pandemic. These grave diggers at kabrastans, cemeteries and attendants at crematoriums gave yeoman services, round-the-clock, were also among those honoured.
