A viral video from a February 14 wedding in Tarn Taran, Punjab, sent social media into a frenzy, claiming crores were tossed into the air as the bride stood amid fluttering notes – a gesture often seen at Punjabi celebrations. As guests danced and cash flew, the spectacle was quickly dubbed a “grand cash party”.

Big bucks blown or just buzz?

The groom’s family has firmly denied the viral claim. Sikander Singh, the groom’s brother, clarified that while money was showered as part of the celebration, the amount was nowhere near the figures circulating online. “My brother runs a truck business in Australia. The marriage was on February 14. We celebrated by showering money, but it was around `2 lakh. Social media exaggerated it into crores, which is wrong,” he said to a news portal.

When the internet does the calculation

The event manager and DJ also dismissed the `8.5-crore figure, estimating that about `4 lakh — including some dollar notes — was used. They said they were unsure how the crore claim surfaced and gained traction. Despite the clarifications, the video continues to spark debate. Some admired the celebratory spirit, while others questioned the display.
