Lucknowites are in for a disappointment this year as the city's most awaited festival, the

, will not be held this year. The district administration has deferred the mahotsav to April next year, to be held after the board examinations get over in the state.
Earlier, the mahotsav was deferred till January next year due to the

"Yes, the mahotsav has been postponed this year due to the elections but we are yet to have a meeting with the district magistrate to decide on the new dates. As of now, there is no plan of organising the mahotsav till at least January next year. We will have a meeting with the

DM

and decide on a new date only after the election and counting is over," says RP Yadav, Regional Tourist Officer and secretary, Lucknow Mahotsav committee.

Kaushal Raj Sharma

, DM Lucknow, was recently quoted as saying that the mahotsav can now only be held sometime next year as this year there was no time for its preparation. "Even if the administration does start preparing for it to be held in January, the participants would be busy with the

Taj Mahotsav

," he said. Sharma was also quoted as saying that the mahotsav will now only be held after the board examinations in April 2018.
The Lucknow Mahotsav was last postponed in 2015 due to the Panchayat Elections and had been held in early 2016.
