Lucknowites love their literature. So when bestselling author Amish Tripathi, famous for his Shiva Trilogy, came down to the city for a literary event, city folk came out in large numbers to meet the acclaimed writer in person. With businessman Chander Prakash playing host that evening, the event saw Amish interacting with the Lucknow audience, which comprised students, academicians and mythology enthusiasts.
Amrit Abhijat, DG, UP Tourism, was the chief guest at the event, and expressed pride that a writer of Amish’s stature had come from the state, as Amish's grandfather belonged to Varanasi. He also invited the writer to associate with UP Tourism in the long run and be an ambassador of the state’s literature, to which Amish replied, “It's an emotional thing.”
Author Jaspreet Taunque then engaged in a tete-a-tete with Amish. During the session, Amish talked about how he juggled between a banking career and writing the first two books of the Shiva trilogy. The hour-long session had its share of light moments, with Amish relating anecdotes which made the audience burst into laughter and applause on more occasions than one. He also shared how he got a taste of Lucknowi tehzeeb when the driver who had picked him up at the airport earlier in the day introduced himself as, “Naacheez ko Nayaab kehte hain.”
The session was followed by questions from the audience. Even though some questions did leave him stumped – like this one: 'Why should I pick up your book when we've already been taught so much about Indian mythology?' – Amish described them as some of the best he’s had to tackle. The event concluded with people scrambling to the writer to get pictures and autographs of the author.
