A sports feast for badminton lovers

Lucknow witnessed the 5th National Para-Badminton Championship in the city recently which gathered around 800 players to participate in the tourney hosted at Vishisht stadium of Dr Shakuntala Misra National Rehabilitation University, Lucknow.
The tournament hosted singles, doubles, and under-17 matches for the specially-abled badminton enthusiasts which saw participation from 30 states of the country. Renowned players, sports enthusiasts, dignitaries, professors, employees and students enjoyed the tournament in full zeal. Some notable people who marked their presence in the championship included Rohit Singh, Shephali Yadav, Ajay Singh and VR Lllian.

On the third day of the 5th National Para-Badminton Championship-23, Maharashtra’s Nilesh Gaikwad, an international gold medalist, advanced to the men’s singles final. During the tournament Koshika, Nithya and Santhya also gave an action-packed sporting performance in the para-badminton singles. In the men’s singles final, Abu Hubaida of Uttar Pradesh clearing the semi-final took on Sanjeev Kumar of Punjab. Hamid Salmani advanced to the Doubles semi-finals and won a bronze medal. Manisha and Prahlad made it to the quarterfinals of the mixed doubles competition.
