A literary evening with actress Sushmita Mukherjee

City folk recently witnessed some interesting coversation brewing between actress Sushmita Mukherjee and Lucknowite Kanak Rekha Chauhan at a literary event held in the city. Sushmita discussed about women from different classes of society, who have touched her life in 40 years. Sushmita on life as an actress, shared, “Being a celebrity is fake as we have to do things for appearances.” She went on to add how her first love was theatre. “Had the medium paid well, I would have not done films. Films is all glamour whereas theatre is all about simplicity,” she said.

Till now known as Kitty from the TV show Karamchand, Mukherjee says that it used to be impossible for her to even go to the market in the days the show was telecast as people would throng around her for autographs. “Despite the success of the show, I had difficulties in landing good roles in Bollywood,” shared Sushmita. Happy that actresses her age are finding good roles on OTT and films, Mukherjee said, “Look at Neena Gupta. She did such a fantastic job in Badhaai Ho!”

Not wanting to stress herself too much though, Sushmita said she’s taken a break from TV for a while. “I have done so many TV shows, now I am taking it easy for sometime.”
