Leading fashion’s future, Aashni Tulsian blends craftsmanship, innovation and purpose
Aashni Tulsian has built a reputation as a forward-thinking leader in the fashion industry, seamlessly blending traditional craftsmanship with cutting-edge innovation. Her journey from mastering knitwear design to becoming an influential figure in fashion management showcases her dedication to evolving the industry while staying true to her creative roots.
Aashni's deep understanding of knitwear design is rooted in her experience working with Shima Seiki Wholegarment machines, a technology that allowed her to experiment with seamless knitting and three-dimensional garment creation. "This technology gave me a strong foundation in knit structures and yarn behavior," she says. Today, in her current role at Loeffler Randall, Aashni applies this knowledge in overseeing the production of fully-fashioned knit garments—one of her brand's most popular categories. "It’s not just about creating beautiful pieces; it's about ensuring that the quality and integrity of each design are maintained from concept to production."
Her expertise was on full display in LR’s Fall/Winter 2024 (FW24) collection, a project she describes as particularly close to her heart. "What made this collection stand out was the range of techniques and materials we were able to showcase," Aashni shares. The FW24 collection featured luxurious cashmere and merino knits, intricate woven pieces with embroidery, and unique crochet details. "We also experimented with cut-and-sew knits, which added a distinctive touch. It was a balance of craftsmanship and innovation and seeing it all come together was incredibly rewarding." The collection is a testament to her brand’s ability to blend tradition with contemporary design, while offering a diverse range of textures and materials that appeal to a broad audience.
Aashni’s success in fashion is not only driven by her creative vision but also by her commitment to staying on top of industry trends and technological advancements. She regularly attends industry events and fabric shows in New York City, while also staying informed through digital platforms like WGSN and Business of Fashion. "Networking with other professionals and collaborating with designers is essential to gain insights into emerging trends," she explains. Additionally, Aashni is deeply invested in researching sustainable fabrics and production techniques to ensure her brand stays ahead of the curve. "Innovation plays a crucial role in shaping the future of fashion management," she emphasizes. "As consumer demands shift and sustainability becomes more important, leveraging technology like 3D sampling and sustainable production methods is key to staying competitive."
Aashni’s forward-thinking approach extends to her advocacy for sustainability and diversity in fashion. "The industry needs to embrace more eco-friendly materials, reduce waste, and be transparent about sourcing and labor practices," she says. She believes that consumers are moving away from fast fashion and prioritizing quality, long-lasting pieces. On the issue of diversity, Aashni stresses that inclusivity must be reflected at all levels of the fashion industry, from designers to models. "Fashion should represent all people, not just a select few."
Aashni also recognizes the role individuals play in driving change within the industry. "As consumers, we can support brands that prioritize sustainability and diversity. Our buying choices matter, and the conversations we start can push the industry toward positive change."
Aashni Tulsian’s journey is as much about family as it is about fashion. Her commitment to blending tradition with innovation reflects the values instilled in her from an early age. She believes in the power of balancing creativity with responsibility. "It’s not just about designing for today," she reflects. "It’s about leaving a legacy for future generations—one that embraces craftsmanship, innovation, sustainability, and inclusivity."
