This year, Behala Barisha Club will host an inclusive Sindoor Khela too

After Tridhara Sammilani,

Behala

Natun Sangha and 66 Pally Club, Behala

Barisha Club

too has decided to carry forward the legacy of

#NoConditionsApply Sindoor Khela

. The club is all set to celebrate this age-old ritual in a unique way as it will see not just married women, but women from all walks of life play with the sacred vermilion powder. Notwithstanding their marital status, hundreds of transgenders, widows and sex workers will gather at this Puja to be a part of the custom.
The theme of Barisha Club this year is ‘Wrin’. It seeks to portray Ma Durga as the epitome of a mother, and how a child is forever indebted to his or her mother for the sacrifices she makes in raising him/her. Saibal Bose, a member of the reception committee of the Puja, said, “Our Puja this year also showcases a few relevant scenarios that we often come across in today’s time. We often see mothers abandoned by their children in their old age and how they suffer due to it. This leads to isolation and she eagerly waits for her child to visit her once. On the other hand, we are also showing how a mother clings to the memories of her little one’s growing-up years as suddenly, one day, her child becomes a part of the rat race of life and doesn’t have much time to spare for his mother.”

President of the Puja, Sudip Polley, said they are elated to be a part of the

Sindoor

Khela initiative by Calcutta Times. “This is a huge honour for us. In our club, we all believe in inclusivity, and what better way to celebrate the age-old tradition of Sindoor Khela. Married women, as well as transgenders, widows and single mothers, among others, will all be a part of the celebration.”
