Silajit wows audience with his solo show

When it comes to music, Silajit Majumder is a nonconformist by his own admission. He can lie down on the stage, take you by surprise with a quick conversation and read out poems written by him. And Sholoana Silajit, his solo performance that took place recently at ICCR auditorium was no

the singer.
“Chattujje babu (Chandrabindoo’s Anindya Chattopadhyay, who was present at the do) once named me, Bangla gaaner somajbirodhi (anti-social of Bengali music). It was a compliment for me and I was overwhelmed,” Silajit declared, as he performed his hit numbers including Oasis, Basundhara, Jhinti, and many others.

Peppered with anecdotes and jokes, the show became thoroughly interactive. From Bangal-Ghoti tiff to cracking a joke over the musicians performing with him — Silajit didn’t miss a chance to make the audience burst into peals of laughter. His team, too, presented an outstanding show. While guitarist Debdeep Mukherjee sang the title song of Manojder Adbhut Bari, Khnada Bhattacharjee sang

from the same film, the music of which has been composed by Silajit.

However, the last bit of the show was a gala surprise for everyone. On public demand, Silajit agreed to perform Sorbonash, but ruefully added, “Dhee (his son) used to be present in all my shows since he was an infant. He used to give me queues whenever I missed a line. But now he is in Bangalore and I miss him, especially when I sing this song.”

As Silajit narrated stories of him and his son, the backdrop of the stage, which was projecting interesting AVs right from the start of the show, suddenly turned into a screen and Dhee appeared through a live video call. As the father-son duo performed, the audience reacted with a loud round of applause.
