Sharmila Tagore, Rituparna Sengupta pay tribute to Shankha Ghosh

Prosad Chatterjee organised a digital memorial on Sunday evening to remember the work and life of the late and much-revered poet Shankha Ghosh. The show, Spardhar Janye began with an oration by poet and scholar Satchidanandan, who talked about the soul-searching, profoundness and lyricism in Ghosh's verses.

Chaitali Dasgupta reminisced how her favourite professor of

(where Shankha Ghosh taught) influenced her mind to interpret Tagore with new perspectives. Theatre actress Sohini Sengupta was nostalgic as she cherished the deep bond that she shared with Ghosh over personal issues, dramatic texts and the dilemmas of a teenager girl.

One of the highlights of the digital show was veteran actress Sharmila Tagore’s recitation of Jonmodin, an iconic poem by the late poet.

Other readings by Rituparna Sengupta, who is currently in Singapore, Pranati Tagore, Sutapa Bandopadhyay, Bijoylaksmi Burman, Ananya Chatterjee, Chaiti Ghoshal, Sohini Sarkar and Mamata Shankar, were also a delight for the viewers. Author-translator Arunava Sinha read out his translation of the famous poem Mukh Dheke Jaye Biggapone.

Veteran singers Pramita Mallick and

Prabuddha Raha

mesmerised with their recital of Jani Go Din Jabe and Tumi Toh Shei Jabei Chole. Vocalist Lopamudra Mitra was at her best singing a verse by Shankho Ghosh, composed by her uncle, late Samir Chatterjee.
