Schoolkids show golf skills on Tolly greens
Kids show promise on golf course
The Tollygunge Club is known as a sports club primarily and encourages young talents to explore their skills in different fields, be it cultural activities or sports such as golf, equestrian events, tennis, squash and swimming. The club recently hosted the All India inter-school golf championships, where students from 25 city schools participated.

The three-day tournament saw over 160 young golfers swinging it in style on the lush green course of the club. “Tolly Club is one of the pioneering institutions to bring golf to India. We will continue nurturing and encouraging young golfing talent,” said Anil Mukerji, club CEO and managing member.

The gala tournament had an elaborate prize distribution ceremony. The prizes were given out by Tolly Club president, Viren Sinha, vice-president Renji Thomas, club’s golf captain Partha Barman and vice-captain Ravi Dey. Little Ekveer Singh Malhotra, all of five, bagged the Youngest Junior prize, while the overall winners of the championship were Abhikanks Basu and Aroush Tagore from La Martiniere for Boys school.

Indrajit Bhalotia, who conceived the event, said, “The inter-school golf championship is the largest single junior event in the country and this is its 14th year. Children have already started preparing for the 2019 event.”
