Sahajiya to perform at the inaugural ceremony of the Chair Poetry Evenings in city today

Chair Poetry Evenings The City of Joy will play host to the second edition of Chair Poetry Evenings, a festival dedicated to poetry from across the globe. The poetry festival will go on till November 24. Poets from Hungary, Slovakia, Chile, USA, Netherlands,

Portugal

and different parts of India will be in attendance. The visiting poets include names like Brian Turner from the USA, Anthony Lawrence from Australia, Sara F Costa from Portugal, Jesús Sepúlveda from Chile, Elmar Kuiper from the Netherlands, Balázs Szőllőssy from Hungary and Hajnal Csilla Nagy from Slovakia. The Indian guests include Arundhathi Subramaniam, Devi Prasad Mishra, Ashutosh Dubey, Hemant Divate, Yashodhara Roy Chaudhuri, Angshuman Kar, Katyayani, Bina Sarkar Elias, Prabodh Parikh, Koushiki Dasgupta and Abhimanyu Mahato. Deb, the vocalist of band Sahajiya, said, “Kolkata is going to witness a unique ensemble of world poetry at the mega event of Chair Poetry Evenings starting from today. Campus. In the inauguration session Sahajiya is going to present different forms of Bengali folk compositions. The universality of the folk music will transcend all the barriers of language and borders. We are feeling very honoured and excited to be a part of such a grand event.” As part of the event, a poetry workshop has been organised today for students. The festival will be held at different venues across the city and will conclude with a gala finale on a cruise by the Ganges on November 24.
