Monica Dogra of “Dhobi Ghat” fame and Pentagram axe-slinger Randolph Correa did just that when they set Tantra, The Park, on fire on Friday night, with their über-funky amalgamation of electronica-laced rock, pop, soul, funk, reggae, disco, rock, jazz along with some fiery soul singing.A scorching performer, Monica aka Shaa’ir’s serpentine moves, versatile voice and those haunting facial expressions mesmerized the audience, who had come in droves to witness one of the best Indian bands in action in Kolkata after two long years. The partylovers, even those with two left feet, were thrown headlong into swells of dangerously luscious grooves, song after song. Songs such as “Drink more wine, drink more water”, “Poker with the present tense”, “Goodbye cruel world” and “Bring back my roots” combined a free-spirited hippie philosophy and spacey spirituality, that provided the music with an edgy novelty.
