Acclaimed folk singer
Parvathy Das Baul
and interdisciplinary artiste
Sujoy Prosad Chatterjee
hosted an intimate evening of spoken words and music recently. Sujoy read out excerpts from
Tagore
’s Horikhela, poems of Amrita Pritam, Lorca,
Sylvia Plath
and Masud Khan.
Singer Ritapa Bhattacharya also performed at the event and rendered Basanti Hey Bhubonomohini and Tumi Kon Bangoner Pothe Ele. Dancer Arnab Bandyopadhyay's solo act with Ritapa's song and Sujoy's poetry mesmerised the audience present at the event.
One of the highlights of the show was a dramatised reading session of Tagore’s famous play Raktakarabi by vocalist Priyam Mukopadhyay and Sujoy. The play, introduced by
Chaitali Dasgupta
, affirmed the current narrative of political turmoil and paralysed humanity.
The show drew to a close with a fascinating performance by Parvathy Das Baul. Her presentation of Ar Amake Chhooshne Sajani was lapped up by the crowd. “With Parvathy’s presence at the event, I felt a spiritual uplift and it was a memorable experience for me to perform along with her,” said Sujoy.
