The concluding dinner of the 14th Kolkata Film Festival organised by The Bengal, was a huge success in terms of innovation.
When German delegate Nazmun Nisa confessed that this is the best film festival party she had ever attended in Kolkata even after being a regular at the Kolkata Film Festival, she was echoing the sentiments of over 5,000 guests who partied on the sprawling lawns of the Sunderbans and the adjoining golf course of ITC Sonar, Kolkata. The concluding dinner of the 14th Kolkata Film Festival organised by The Bengal, an organisation of eminent personalities of West Bengal, and hosted by its chairman Hari Mohan Bangur was also a huge success in terms of innovation.
The venue resembled a village of Bengal, all complete with huts that had artisans displaying the making of handicrafts from the seven divisions of Bengal. If the theme of the venue was Gram Bangla, the platters theme was interestingly titled Bhadralok. From posto bora to maachher chop, from murgir cutlet to chorchori, from sorse bata maachh to kosha mangsho, from baked mihidana to mishti doi there couldnt have been a better spread for Kolkatas diplomats, politicos, bureaucrats, fashion designers, models and, of course, the entire film fraternity while they discussed their week-long date with world class movies. As for the performances, there was everything for people with eclectic tastes. While Koel went classical with her debut dance performance, Kaushiki Desikan with hubby Partha enthralled the audience with a bhajan recital. Koneenicaa was more filmi with songs from Saathiya and so was Rituparna Sengupta, who rushed straight from the screening of Chaturanga as the concluding film of the festival. By the time, Dibyendu began his Spanish numbers, many in the audience had already hit the dance floor. And guess what? In one of the rarest occasions, the likes of Swati Gangopadhyay and Soumitra Chatterjee with wife Deepa got into the groove. Reason enough for renowned social worker and secretary general of The Bengal, Sundeep Bhutoria, to say, Its the love and affection of the people of Kolkata for handicrafts, art, culture and films that have made them accept the invitation and grace the evening. The Bengals president Sunil Gangopadhyay, working president Nabaneeta Dev Sen, board members Chuni Goswami, Goutam Ghose, Dolly Basu, Md Mansoor Alam and Roopa Ganguly couldnt have agreed more!
