Ladies take centre stage at a city musical gala

Monday evening witnessed the seventh edition of an all-women musical show that took place at a city restopub. It was sort of an extended celebration of International Women’s Day, which was on March 8.



This time, around 25 female participants performed at the do. The show began with a dance recital by Laavanya Ghosh. It was followed by Aparajita Chakraborty rendering Tagore’s Tumi Robe Nirobe on the esraj. Up next, it was time for the band, The Bong Divas, followed by singers Pallabi Chatterjee, Barnini Chakraborty,

Samadipta Mukherjee

, Himjhuri Roy, Megha and Sadhna singing a few soulful covers and original compositions.



“This is a unique show, where only new and upcoming female singers perform. I am grateful to Sayok Das, the brains behind the show, and his entire team, for letting independent musicians like us perform our original songs in front of the audience. This was the first time I performed at this event and it was a wonderful experience,” said Pallabi.



Another performer, Anushka Patra, said, "Though this is the seventh season of the musical show, it was the first time that I got to perform here. I feel so overwhelmed."



A few women achievers were also felicitated, including

Nilanjana Chatterjee

,

Shreya Mukherjee Bhattacharjee

and Manoshi Roy Chowdhury.



Sonali, a band member of The Bong Divas, shared, “We are glad that we got an opportunity to pay tribute to legends like Lata Mangeshkar, Bappi Lahiri and Sandhya Mukhopadhyay in front of such senior artistes.”
