When five talented musicians of the country joined hands to celebrate World Music Day, the evening had to be memorable. And the citys music lovers couldnt have expected a better treat when performers like Bickram Ghosh, Usha Uthup, Raja Hasan, Lopamudra Mitra and Shankar Mahadevan shared the stage on Monday evening.
The
programme, organised by a private Bengali channel, started with Bickram Ghoshs drumscape, a half-an-hour recital, that stood out with its energy.
But the audience was left awestruck when Ghosh played the instrumental version of Happy Birthday to you. After that, it was Usha Utthup, Raja Hasan and Lopamudras turn to enthrall the audience. But the most exciting part of the programme was the performance by young students. Dancing to the beats of Salsa, Samba and Baul songs, the young dancers paid an fitting tribute to world music. The final saw Shankar Mahadevan
stealing the show with numbers from Breathless and Dil Chahta Hai. When he dedicated the Kal Ho Naa Ho track, Pretty Woman, to Usha Uthup, the entire auditorium gave a standing ovation. Cactus frontman Sidhu did a great job anchoring the programme.
