Ghostly décor. Check. Creepy costumes. Check. Devilishly delightful drinks. Check.
Halloween bashes, held over the past three days at city pubs, scored high on the spooky meter. Team CT dropped in at several nightclubs to give you glimpses of how Kolkatans had a blast at Halloween parties. Here’s a lowdown…
10 Downing StreetAs we entered the chamber of horrors at 10 Downing Street at Salt Lake Sector V, we were greeted with creaky bones and creepy smiles of skeletons that seemed to be hanging from nowhere.
The zombie bar was decorated with skeleton masks and jack o’ lanterns and also since it was the ladies’ night at the restopub, the PYTs had a blast downing cocktails and shots on offer. A face paint corner at the venue added to the fun.
Avanti, a reveller, who was attending the party with her bestie, Chandreyee, said, “This is the first time I am attending a Halloween party in the city. While other metros follow the trend of throwing gala bashes, I must say Kolkata is fast catching up. It’s a lovely ambience with great music and drinks.”
DJ CAS was at the console and made everyone dance to his beats. He belted out hits both from the early 2000s to the latest ones. Revellers grooved to numbers like Ek Pal Ka Jeena, Neend Churai Meri, Tera Ghata and Saturday Saturday, apart from other EDM tracks.
Club BoudoirHordes of party animals turned up at Club Boudoir to attend the Halloween night on Sunday. DJ Hardik was the man of the evening, who churned out hits by the minute for the revellers.
He said, “Halloween is a party where one can play creepy songs from the present time and also retro numbers. Apart from that, EDM, hip-hop and Punjabi tracks are always a hit with the revellers.” Everyone at the restopub was seen having a blast as they gorged on cocktails with spooky names and delectable dishes.
Many danced to their hearts’ content to numbers like The Ringer, Friends, Only You, Zinghat, Heeriya and others.
RoxyIt was a monstrous night as many brought out their evil best at the Halloween party at Roxy. It was a battle of DJs as Digital 7, V Society, Rahul-J and Cosmic Scientist took to the console in turns to churn out foot-tapping numbers.
Rittika, who was seen having a blast with her friend, Ayanka, said, “This is my second Halloween party in the city and the ambience at this place is giving me the creeps; I am getting goose bumps on seeing everyone in scary masks and face paint. But I am having a blast as the psychedelic music is apt for the party.” The bar top was decorated with props like hanging skeletons, jack o’ lanterns, blood-stained hands and ghost masks.
Aswini, another reveller, said, “I am very scared of watching horror films. I am here with my friend and it’s already giving me the jitters seeing everyone look so ghoulish!”
Beer RepublicHalloween at Beer Republic is a very big affair and is celebrated every year with a lot of fervour. This year too, it was no different. From scary props to bartenders and revellers, all sporting creepy looks, added to the spooky meter at the party.
While some painted their faces with neon colours, others wore skeleton masks and colourful hairbands to match with the theme of the night. Black and red seemed to be the colours that ruled the wardrobe choices of the PYTs.
DJ Ritzee was at the turntable and spun songs like Bheege Hont, Mudiyaan Tu Bachke Rahe, Bachna Ae Haseeno, Kyu Aj Neend Kam Khwab Zyada hai, Banja Tu Meri Rani, Tamma Tamma and Angrezi Beat, among others. Gursimran, owner of the restopub, said, “We love to celebrate each and every festivity at Beer Republic. Setting up the ambience and the mood for the party is our USP. And also, for special events like Halloween or
Durga Puja, we invite special DJs to play for us, so that we can give the best experience to our patrons.”
Party animals thronged the dance floor till late in the night. Swarnali, a PYT, said, “I am a regular at this restopub. I think this place hosts one of the most rocking Halloween parties in town.”
BakstageThis restopub scored high on the spooky meter with its eerie décor. Witches, skeletons, ghouls, paper cuttings of flying bats, skull ghost masks, pumpkin heads and lanterns hanging from the ceiling added to the theme of the night.
DJ Sunny played songs like Thriller, Ghost And Stuff, Ao Kabhi Haveli Pe and others for the party peeps. Harmit, a reveller, said, “I come to Bakstage often and as soon as I entered this place today, I couldn’t recognise it as the interiors were completely transformed with Halloween special props and red lights.”
Amidst the crazy fun and dance, many revellers were also seen posing for photographs with the jack o’ lanterns and skeletons at the do.
