First-ever repair café to take place in Kolkata

, would set up the first Repair Café in Kolkata once a month on the premises of the library of the

Goethe Institute

. The initiative aims to create a community space for repairers, volunteers and visitors, who would come together to repair everyday items. Instead of throwing things away and buying a new one. In the process, a community will be formed with the exchange of ideas.

, director of Goethe-Institut said that Repair Café is a unique concept that has resonance in India and Germany. The primary goal is to become more sustainable and create a platform where people can participate in dialogues and actions. “Today sustainability is essential for the world, significantly impacting our present and future. With Repair Café, we aspire to create an open meeting space for people around this theme of sustainability. People can bring items such as books, bags, jewellery, clothes, small electronic goods and much more and get them repaired together with experts and volunteers. This platform will also encourage people to learn how to repair certain things by themselves from the experts and each other. Repair Café will be part of our monthly programme, and we look forward to inviting everyone at the Goethe-Institut to join, support and become more sustainable,” she added.
