City's who's who enjoy the Queen's Cup

It was one of the most elaborate days in the city’s racing calendar. It was the afternoon of Queen's Cup that bears the colonial history of the British era in the city. The Reserve Stand of

Royal Calcutta Turf Club

was dotted with dignitaries from different walks of life on Saturday that showcased some fascinating horse races in the city.

Kanchan Jana

, the secretary of the club, said, “This is the longest race of the season and one of the five races run worldwide in honour of Queen

Elizabeth II

. The Cup is still sent to the Royal Calcutta Turf Club by her office. The entire diplomatic community block their dates to enjoy a day out at the races along with the racing fraternity. We are happy to have The British Deputy High Commissioner Bruce Bucknell to give away the cup to the winning connections.”

It was also a day that showcased breathtaking and elaborate hats and fascinators donned by women who participated in the hat competition.

Media personality

Ratnottama Sengupta

, who was spotted capturing candid moments in her camera, later told us, “See, it is not about the racing. It is about the ambience of the place that I enjoyed the most. It was like the clock hands going back in time as if we are in the British era. That is something I enjoyed the most. My friend Sunanda (Sengupta) is wearing a hat she had bought in the US just because she liked it. She had no idea then that she would be wearing it in the competition.”
