Celebs at Mrinal Sen's birthday

It was his 90th birthday on Monday, but as his admirers put it, he just became 90 years young. When Mrinal Sen celebrated his special day at a city auditorium, the who’s who of the industry made sure to drop by and pay respect to the legendary filmmaker, who had initiated the ‘New Cinema’ movement in the country.
The occasion called for a trip down memory lane and many remembered the time he was auditioning for “Kharij”.Sen would often ask the child actors what they want to call him and would feign anguish if someone called him “Jethu”.
“This is why we still call him Mrinalda. His films are what we grew up on. He had no set pattern and dealt with the middle class,” said Sudeshna Roy, who agreed when Anjan Dutt said that Sen has probably not got the recognition he deserved. “His films were pathbreaking, but he probably didn’t get his due,” she said.
The man who doesn’t allow anybody to touch his feet, was visibly touched with all the adulation that came his way.
