The festive season had an early start at the Tollygunge Club, recently, as Priti Patel’s troupe displayed the amazing tenacity, strength and elegance that Thang ta, a Manipuri style of martial arts is all about.

The festive season had an early start at the Tollygunge Club, recently, as Priti Patel’s troupe displayed the amazing tenacity, strength and elegance that Thang ta, a Manipuri style of martial arts is all about.
The event, an ode to seasons and aptly titled, Seasons in the Sun, also saw Sounak Chattopadhyay perform Hindustani classical, Francis Lepcha render pop English numbers in his inimitable style, recitation.

However, it was Priti’s choreography that stunned the audience. With the agility of gazelles, the dancers pranced across the stage. They were equally deft with the spears and the swords and proved that balance comes naturally to them as they spun in the air and crouched to beat a drum. They didn’t miss a beat but we skipped many a heartbeat wondering where they derived their equilibrium from!
