Celebrating Tagore’s tunes and poems

Beautiful renditions of Tagore’s soulful poetry coupled with his melodious songs were presented over a span of three days at an event organised by the Behala Sanskritik Sammilani recently. The programme was the beginning of a festivity to annually celebrate Tagore’s exquisite collection of poems and songs.
Each evening of the show was divided into two parts, where the first half had artistes engage in fervent recitation while the second half comprised performances of his various tunes.

Bratati Bandyopadhyay

’s eloquent recitation of poems like Suoranir Shadh followed by Jayati Chakraborty’s performance of songs like Timiro Abogunthoney, wrapped the first day. The second day had artistes Jagannath Basu and Urmimala Basu presenting recitations of various poems including one of their favourites, Malancho. The show concluded with Tagore songs like Chinno Pataye and Chand Uthechilo Gogoney being performed by Srikanta Acharya. The final day of the show saw veteran actor Soumitra Chatterjee reciting a variety of poems like Jhorer Diney and Chhoto Boro. His recitation was followed by a soulful performance by singer

, who rendered Amar Mukti Aloy Aloy, Shudhu Tomar Bani Noy, Mor Sondhay Tumi and others.

“We had planned this programme keeping the celebration of Rabindranath Tagore’s birthday in mind. Our main aim was to bring forth the essence of his writings amidst people, through various renowned artistes. The event turned out to be a huge success,” said Rupam Bhattacharya, one of
the members of the organising committee.
