Celebrating monsoon with Rabindra sangeet
Rabindranath Tagore continues to be a part of every teatable discussion.
So, on Wednesday evening, when The Times of India presented a concert on the Bard, the feeling was one of déjà vu.
As artistes got together to romance the rains with Tagore at Sandre Hall, there was everything from Rabindra Sangeet, poetry reading and excerpts from his works, to leave the audience mesmerised.

Sraboni Sen’s passionate recital of Emono dine taare... was well-appreciated. The other monsoon melodies that filled up all hearts were Aami tokhono chilemo mogono and Aamar nishit raater baadol dhara. Naboneeta Banerjee’s alaap with monsoon ragas like desh, mian ki malhar was yet another talking point of the evening.
Television personality Chaitali Dasgupta read out excerpts from Shankho Ghosh, Purnendu Patri and others, while Sujoy’s recitation of a poem from Tagore’s Patraput and a poem by Shakti Chattopadhyay garnered huge response. Bhaswar added anecdotes that provided variety to the concert. Truly, when it rains, it pours!
