Bengali entertainment industry gets a brand new organisation

At their official press meet, Dilip Ghosh, MP and state president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), West Bengal, was present as the chief guest. Actor George Baker, director Swapan Saha and singer Sudeb De were also present. Talking about the union, Dilip said that his party will not interfere with the creative atmosphere of the Bengali film and television industry.

EIMPC came up with a list of demands, including clearance of dues of all the technicians and state subsidy in filmmaking. “Through this organisation, we want equal rights for all the producers. Why are only three or four producers making serials while there are so many of them?” asked Sanghamitra, adding that regardless of the person’s political stand, everyone should get equal opportunity.

Actor George Baker talked about the rights of technicians. “It takes at least four people to serve tea to the entire unit. The industry cannot run without the technicians and we all must talk about their rights. I hope that this confederation works for them. There was a time when Tollywood felt like a sacred place. The feeling on entering the studio gates was creatively satisfying. We used to love working here. But we don’t get that feeling anymore,” he added.
