Nothing can bring more happiness to Bengalis than poetry. No wonder, Kabita Utsav that was hosted by theatre personality Soumitra Mitra and elocutionist Bratati Bandopadhyay at a city auditorium recently, saw an eclectic mix of poets, authors, elocutionists and other dignitaries.
The evening started with a lamp-lighting ceremony that was attended by Soumitra Chatterjee, Subodh Sarkar, Shuvaprasanna and other guests.
Then, the likes of Srijato, Rahul Purokaystho and others, recited poems to the delight of the audience.
Soumitra Chatterjee and Srikanta Acharya too rendered poems as they were met with a loud round of applause.
The event culminated with performances by Bratati, Soumitra Mitra and Debshankar Halder. “I am glad that so many eminent poets and elocutionists could come and grace the event. Our objective is to celebrate the legacy of Bangla kobita and we look forward to host similar events soon,” Soumitra Mitra told us.
