An evening of acoustics and Urdu blues

Several youngsters gathered at a city studio recently to be a part of an intimate musical expedition presented by composer, singer and songwriter

Sameer Rahat

. Organised by actor Soumyajit Majumdar, Sameer’s solo gig witnessed a session of melodious

Urdu

blues music.

Amidst the very warm and personal set up, the show opened with Sameer’s self-composed numbers like Tujhe Ye Khabar He Nhi Thi, Khat, Hum Kaun and Maujood. He also recited his self-written poetry Jo Bhi Hai Mera Hai and introduced the audience to ‘

mushaira

’ — a genre of slam poetry. In between his performances, he also engaged in some heartfelt conversations with the audience.

The final act included the Urdu blues music based on experimental poetry of various Urdu poets as well as other songwriters. Sameer crooned tunes like Gyaan, Use Bhool Ja, Kya Lena, Chehre and Musalsal. The musical evening was attended by Soumyajit and Sameer’s group of friends like actor Soumendra Bhattacharya and Shweta Chaudhuri from the theatre group Mad About Drama, Suprovo Tagore and Anirjit Hore Roy from Shrieks of

Silence

and others.

The show closed with a marvellous rendition of Jaane Woh Kaise Log The.
— Barsha Roy
