Lovers of Indian classical music had the time of their lives at an event that paid tribute to

Padma Vibhushan Girija Devi

, who passed away on October 24, 2017. The musical soiree was organised recently by tabla maestro

Pt Subhen Chatterjee

, who accompanied the great legend to most of her concerts — both in India and abroad — for more than 30 years. The event was held at his residence where some of the leading disciples and followers of Girija Devi performed some of her bandishes. Personalities from different fields came and spoke about their experiences and interactions with the legendary singer, also known as the ‘Queen of thumri’.
“I have played with Appaji for more than 30 years all across the globe and I always treated her as my mentor... my guru ma. So this is
just a humble way to remember her in my house where she used to come regularly during Durga Puja to give her Ashtami anjali,” said Subhen Chatterjee.
The event, Remembering Appa, witnessed performances by Pt Jayanta Bose, Pt Subhankar Banerjee, Pt

Abhishek Lahiri

, Pt Ramdas Palsule, Pt Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Sunanda Sharma, Ustad Shahid Parvez, Anindo Chatterjee, Anubrata Chatterjee and Shubha Maharaj.
