Several prominent personalities from the city’s art and culture fraternity came together to perform at Iti Rabi, an event held at ICCR on Sunday.
The show was scripted by Debopriya Dey from Santiniketan, the readings were introduced by Suparna Datta and interdisciplinary artist
Sujoy Prosad Chatterjee
presented an ensemble of selected letters written by
Tagore
to a few prominent women of his diaspora and beyond.
Anchored by Madhumanti Maitra, the event saw
Srabani Sen
and Jayati Chakraborty rendering some soulful Tagore songs. While Sujoy read out a poignant letter written to Indira Debi about the political consciousness of Tagore, Srabani mesmerised everyone by singing Keno Cheye Achho Go Maa.
Letters written to
Mrinalini Debi
,
Sarojini Naidu
,
Annie Beasant
, Lady Abala Bose and many others were also read out at the event.
The highlight of the evening was the last letter that Tagore wrote to
Victoria Ocampo
that was read out by Sujoy. Jayati sang Ami Hethaye Thaki Shudhu and Tomar Amar Ei Biroher Antarale.
The show directed by Subhasree Patel had a full-house audience. "Tagore's letters surely reflect his belief in humanity above any politics. These free-spirited women, whom he wrote to, had a significant impact on his outlook too. The evening brought that out well," shared Sujoy.
