A tribute to Bob Dylan by city artistes

With the American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan’s birthday being on May 24, a heritage restobar of the city organised a

Tribute featuring Kolkata musicians such as Arjun Kar Kar and Someswar Bhattacharya, Bibhubrata Acharjee,

Rahul Guha Roy

and

Durjoy Chowdhury

on Sunday. In attendance were guests such as stalwart drummer Nondon Bagchi, singer

Paloma Majumder

and

Sourav Chatterjee

of Chandrabindoo. They were spotted swaying to the tunes of Dylan numbers.

Rahul said, “It feels great to be a part of such a concert. It is a very personal performance as Dylan has been an all-time favourite. It also feels great to be playing at this 85-year-old restobar that has had a long history with music and musicians of the city.”

The event began with Nondon Bagchi addressing the audience and sharing his thoughts about Bob Dylan’s oeuvre. It was followed by renditions of popular Dylan songs by Arjun & Someswar, Bibhubrata, Rahul Guha Roy and Durjoy such as Knocking On Heaven’s Door and Farewell Angelina, amongst others. Nondon also joined Bibhubrata to sing a few verses of Blowing in the Wind. The audience sang along to the famous numbers and exchanged Dylan anecdotes with the artistes and friends.

Durjoy added, “It is my first performance at this iconic restobar. This place has a different energy. The crowd is so vibrant. I loved playing here. It feels amazing to be a part of such a concert.”

Sandeep Sehgal, the owner of the restobar shared, "We have been trying to provide a platform for the musicians of the city and revive the live music culture of Kolkata. We have live performances every Sunday, but this one was a special event. Bob Dylan is one of the greatest icons of all time and we thought we must celebrate his birthday. I thank all the musicians who made the evening special.”
