A Night with Black Coffee
People loved the brew emanating from Big Ben, New Kenilworth Hotel. After all, it was Friday Night Live with Black Coffee, a band that had Tritha on vocals and spoken word, Joy B on vocals, Rebecca Paisley on cello, Subhayu Sen Mazumdar on esraj, Adil Rashid on guitars and Mayookh Bhaumik on tabla.
“It was over a cup of black coffee that Mayookh stumbled upon this idea. Hence, the name,” said Tritha, adding, “Ours is ‘music of today’ rather than fusion. I am an expressionist and we express our thoughts through music. I hate to sing with my eyes closed as I feel it’s important to communicate during a performance.” The singer, incidentally, has done a playback in Dwando and is eager to take on more such assignments. Together, the band delivered compositions like Ja ja re, Saraswati diva, Rahmania and Bas to name a few. In between her performance, Tritha was seen sipping on a cuppa. When asked if it was Black Coffee, she joked, “No, it’s warm water with honey. I’ve such a bad cold that I needed something for my throat.”
