A musical evening to pay tribute to the iconic Bengali music composers of Bollywood

mainstream cinema and Indian music industry is largely dominated by the Bollywood soundtracks, apart from number of regional film songs. Songs in Bollywood movies are crafted with lyrics written by distinguished bards and then set to music, concocted to match the sequence or script of the film. Bollywood cinema is unique in that way as the majority of songs are lipped by the characters themselves rather than being frolicked in the background. Thus the music composer appears as the key figure for entire music of any Bollywood movie, having broader role encompassing both composing songs and securing background scores. A soundtrack can make or break a film, so as the composer, as he is the key craftsman of its musical structure. Bollywood has gifted us many such amazing geniuses, where a large number of them are from Bengal, who have exposed their class and proficiency, taken Bollywood music to the extreme level. Be it folk or rhythmic disco, classical or modern, experimental or traditional, these Bengali composers have fashioned Bollywood music with profound contentment and serenity. From lyrical solos, mawkish duets, boisterous dance numbers or a romantic tune, the repertoire is vast. So, keeping this in mind, a unique event has been organised that wiil take us through a journey towards discovering and enjoying such immortal rich music, weaved by four of the most famous Bengali composers of Bollywood, SD Burman,Salil Chowdhury
, Hemant Kumar and RD Burman. The concert is named as Mortal Man, Immortal Melodies – A tribute to Bengali composers in Bollywood and will take palce on June 13 at a city auditorium. Singers are Trijoy Deb, Dipanwita Choudhury, Anwesha Dutta, Arnab Basu and Sagnik Chakraborty will perform at the event. There will be a sixteen-minute documentary on Bengali composers in Bollywoood starting from Raichand Boral to Jeet Gannguli covering a high range of information followed by the concert. Music will be arranged by Sudipta Saha, while the anchors of the show will be Satinath Mukhopadhyay, Roopsha Dasgupta Ray.end of article
