“Bhoomi is my child. I will keep it alive,” said frontman Soumitra, squashing rumours of a rift, as he went about his performance on Friday evening. Robi O Nobin, that the singer conceived with his son, Arjyesh, will make a debut in the US post-Pujas. “When I was being driven around by a cabbie in the US, I hummed “Ami jhorer kachhe rekhe jabo”. That’s when others encouraged me to sing such songs,” said Soumitra.
Surprise, Surprise
The band belted out “Sakhi bhabona kahare boley”, “Tomar ghore basat kore”, “Jhiko jhiko”.

While singing “Coffee House er shei adda ta”, Soumitra called the song’s composer Suparna Kanti Ghosh on stage and as he took centrestage, the Bhoomi frontman slipped into the role of a drummer.
Laughathon
When Chandrabindoo vocalists Anindya and Upal were called on stage, the latter wisecracked, “Euro Cup is on and Somuda (Soumitra) said, ‘Our show is going to be a high-voltage affair. So, just sing a slower number so that the sleep-deprived audience can slip into a slumber’.”
Papa kehte hain
The latter part of the evening saw Arjyesh and Irene belting out songs of their original outfit, Maseeha. Arjyesh even wore the hat made famous by SRK and sang, “Papa kehte hain”. Said the doting son, “He (father Soumitra) has a lot of music left in him and he’ll rather pass me the hat, not the baton.”
