The announcement was made by the Trinamool Congress (TMC), which also named Babul Supriyo, Rajeev Kumar, and Menaka Guruswamy among its candidates for the upcoming elections.
Koel, daughter of veteran actor Ranjit Mallick, has been a leading name in Bengali cinema for over two decades, known for her versatility and grace across both commercial and meaningful films. Her entry into the Rajya Sabha is being seen as part of TMC’s effort to bring voices from culture, art, and civil society into the political fold.
