Changampuzha Park
at Kochi has been filled with echoes of music for the past week with the ongoing
Edappally Music Festival
, organised by the Edappally Sangeetha Sadas.
Kicking off the 14th edition of the event were the twin sisters Arathi and
Archana, with their soulful classical musical hits that had the audience swaying to their tunes.
The sisters opened the music concert with Khamas ragam and also belted out popular Carnatic music krithis by Swathi Thirunal and compositions of Tyagaraja Swami. Supporting he vocalists were violinist TS Gokul, mridangist Sajin Lal Edappal and YN Santhanam on Gajra. The vocalists displayed good command on the ragas, drawing applause from the audience who enjoyed the ambience.
The vocalist twins begun the musical journey at the age of seven and have performed in almost 100 stages in and around Chennai. They are the great grandnieces of renowned Carnatic musician Harikesanallur Muthiah Bhagavathar and great granddaughters of TL Venkatrama Iyer.
PR Nair, the organiser of the programme, says, “As TL Venkatrama was the one who inaugurated the first music concert of the Edapally Sangeetha Sadas 14 years ago, it was a dream to flag off this year’s Edappally Music Festival with the music concert of the Arathi and Archana, who are also from the same family.”
